Paris Saint-Germain has lost the first league match of the new season in Ligue 1. The reigning champion, who was considerably stripped down by corona infections from, among others, Neymar, Kylian Mbappé and Ángel Di Maria, went down 1-0 against the newly promoted RC Lens on Thursday.
The only goal of the game came to Ignatius Ganago, who benefited from a blunder by goalkeeper Marcin Bulka. The Pole, normally a reserve goalkeeper, just pushed the ball into the feet of the attacker, who made no mistake for the empty goal.
Mitchel Bakker came in six minutes before the end of Paris Saint-Germain. Seventeen-year-old top talent Xavi Simons stayed on the bench for the entire match.
The team of trainer Thomas Tuchel was plagued by corona infections in the run-up to the start of the competition. In total, seven players were found to be infected. Besides Neymar, Mbappé and Di Maria, the positively tested Keylor Navas, Mauro Icardi, Leandro Paredes and Marquinhos also did not compete against RC Lens.
