Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier is unsure when Lionel Messi (35) will be back again after his trip to Saudi Arabia.
– I was informed by the board at the beginning of the week about the suspension of Messi, Galtier told a press conference on Friday.
Earlier in the week, the French media wrote that Lionel Messi had been suspended for two weeks from training and matches. The reason was a sponsored trip to Saudi Arabia after the last round’s 1-3 loss to Lorient. Because of the trip, Messi is said to have missed a training session.
– We’ll see when Leo returns. There will be discussions, says Galtier.
Messi has a contentious sponsorship deal with Saudi Arabia and on Thursday it was reported by the Reuters news agency that a formal offer to play for Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal. According to Argentine media, he is offered an annual salary of around 400 million dollars a year. This corresponds to NOK 4.25 billion.
Galtier would not comment on Messi’s trip to Saudi Arabia or anything about the future of either him or Neymar.
In recent days, PSG fans have protested against superstars Messi and Neymar. TV pundit Jérôme Rothen this week called Messi’s time at the club a “total failure”.
Messi is on an expiring contract and according to the French media, his time in Paris is coming to an end. The 35-year-old has also been linked with a trip to Barcelona, as well as a move to American Inter Miami.
PSG crashed out of the cup and the Champions League in the round of 16, but are on their way to league gold. PSG meets Troyes away on Sunday at 20.45.
