PSG – All clear after virus worries at Paris Saint-Germain

Before the Champions League round of 16 between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Bayern, the French had virus concerns.

WHAT HAPPENED? An alleged virus wave at Paris Saint-Germain has turned out to be rather harmless. RMC Sport had reported on Saturday that several PSG players are struggling with a gastrointestinal virus and could miss at least the game against AS Monaco on Saturday.

WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND? It was not known who the players in question were. The only thing that was certain in the run-up to the Ligue 1 game was that the two top strikers, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé, would be out. However, the line-up and squad against the Monegasques did not indicate that several stars were missing, only Fabian Ruiz was not in the Paris squad. So overall there was no sign of a major virus outbreak at PSG.

WHAT’S NEXT? While Mbappé will also be out on Tuesday against FC Bayern in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, things are looking better for Messi. As coach Christophe Galtier explained on Friday, the Argentine should return to training and be available on Monday despite a hamstring problem. In addition to the star strikers, three potential regulars are currently injured: Nordi Mukiele, Renato Sanches and Marco Verratti.
