PS5: Sony would have increased production volume for 2020 – News

According to the Japanese press, Sony plans to produce between nine and ten million PS5 by the end of 2020. The manufacturer would have chosen to increase the production volume in order to meet the increased demand due to the health crisis current.

Last April, Bloomberg reported that the number of PS5 produced by March 31, 2021 would be limited to five or six million units, less than the launch of the PS4, which had sold 7.5 million copies during its two first quarters of marketing. According to sources Nikkei, it would now be nine million PS5s that would be assembled in 2020, a figure that could even rise to ten million according to Bloomberg. “Sony started mass production in June and is currently planning to assemble five million units by the end of September, and another five million between October and December. Much of this latter production would turn into inventory by 2021 in because of the logistical delay “, details Bloomberg.

The health crisis poses logistical concerns, since the consoles are mainly manufactured in China, then sent by boat around the world, so that stock problems could arise despite this increased production due to delivery delays. In recent months, Nintendo has notably encountered difficulties in meeting the demand for the Switch and the fitness game. Ring Fit Adventure, just like Facebook and its Oculus Quest VR headset. Nikkei rightly reports that around two million Oculus Quest should be produced by the end of 2020, 50% more compared to the whole of 2019.

The PS5 does not yet have a price or release date, but is expected by the end of 2020.
