Die Initial sales figures for the PS5 Pro are comparable to those of the PS4 Pro. This shows that despite the higher costs and an already established PS5 community, there is still great interest in the more powerful variant. But how do these numbers translate?
In the US, one of Sony’s most important markets, the PS5 Pro is off to a solid start, according to Circana analyst Mat Piscatella communicated via “BlueSky”. But there are differences: While the PS4 Pro broke new ground as the first more powerful console in its generation, the PS5 Pro enters a market that is already characterized by economic uncertainty and competition like the Xbox Series X/S. Piscatella says the console sold about as well in the region at launch as the PS4 Pro did when it launched in 2016
Why is the PS5 Pro selling similarly to the PS4 Pro?
A main reason is Sony’s clever strategy, which, according to Sony, was planned that way from the start. Many gamers want to optimize their gaming experience, and the PS5 Pro offers exactly that. Improved graphics, faster loading times and better performance are particularly impressive for technology lovers. A not significantly unimportant factor for “heavy gamers”: the PS5 Pro stays cool longer.
At the same time, there are also caveats: Many PS5 owners are hesitant to spend money on an upgrade again because the standard PS5 still offers good performance. Nevertheless, interest in high-end technology and future gaming innovations appears to be strong enough to generate solid sales figures. Otherwise, the PS5 Pro wouldn’t be as powerful as the PS4 Pro in 2016.
What does that mean for you?
If you already own a PS5, the question arises: do you need the upgrade? The answer depends on your playing style. If you value maximum graphic details, smooth frame rates and optimized VR experiences, the PS5 Pro could be the right choice for you.
On the other hand, do you have a PS4 or PS4 Pro? Then the PS5 Pro offers a chance to jump straight to the next level. Especially if you plan to enjoy future games at their best quality. Many PS4 games also benefit massively from the Pro version of the PlayStation 5.
