I had a similar situation with PS4 Pro… but in a different way. Photo. own materials/screenshot/Sony
This is another important date for PlayStation fans: on September 26, 2024, the pre-sale of PS5 Pro starts, a console intended to offer a new quality of entertainment and performance. The official premiere is on November 7, and the basic equipment will cost PLN 3,499. Is it worth it?

The new console is a shorter technological leap than the previous generation. When I bought my PS4 Pro, I was guided by, among others: significantly faster loading times in the games I am interested in. I finally switched to PS5 only when I saw that more and more titles were no longer available on PS5 and I felt that I was missing something.
A somewhat ungrateful but clear target for comparison is our native Cyberpunk 2077. In the regular PS4 version, it was so barely playable that Sony temporarily withdrew the product from the online store. I played decently on PS4 Pro, but with glitches. Meanwhile, console players received further support and the Phantom of Liberty expansion only on PS5, because the hardware allowed them to best handle the new game possibilities.
And what about games on PS5 Pro? According to the shows, a bit nicer. If we look carefully.
According to the announcement, the promises include, among others: better resolution, processor, RAM, a mode that overclocks graphics without dropping frames per second, advanced ray tracing (which again – is not intended to slow down the game) and AI solutions that improve the appearance of details and very distant objects. Not to mention the lack of an optical drive, which forces people with disc collections to spend extra money. According to Sony’s president, this is a nod to giving players a choice.
In theory, some games will be able to reach up to 120 frames per second and 8k quality, but as Sony adds in the fine print, the availability of such features will depend on the games themselves. For the time being, we should not expect a flood of titles that will support such gadgets.
If Sony didn’t zoom in and highlight what it improves in games during the Pro version demonstrations, I probably wouldn’t even notice the difference.
I would say that this is an offer for connoisseurs and really demanding gamers who, for some reason, prefer to stick to consoles rather than overclock their computers to their limits. There’s nothing wrong with that and thanks to them, the PS5 Pro will probably sell out. Sales of the fifth edition are doing very well, despite problems at the premiere.

I can’t say whether the high price of Piglet (as these editions are affectionately called) No. 5 is justified by the content of its silicon tripe. Probably yes. However, I feel that the Japanese offer me too little compared to what is already available much cheaper.
I felt a difference in quality when switching from PS4 Pro to PS5… but in my opinion, the new games still do not exhaust all the possibilities of this console. The DualSense pad itself has a lot of functions that lie fallow in many productions.
When I play action games, there are so many things happening on the screen that require my attention that it would be difficult for me to sit and admire, for example, trees carefully cared for by AI in the distance. I’m not looking for visual realism, for me it’s an overrated thing in games. I’m simply not the target group in this matter.
I think we’ve reached a point where technology ages much slower. PS4 debuted in 2013 and after eleven years it still produces visually great games. There are so many to choose from that you can pick and choose, and if you have a subscription, Sony adds freebies every month. The eighth generation of consoles already has a very good shelf life, and I feel that the ninth will stay with us just as long, if not longer.
I don’t see anything on the horizon yet that would scream “without PS5 Pro, there’s no point in installing it!” as I did with the previous generation. The latest State of Play show on September 24 didn’t change that feeling, unless Sony continues to endlessly improve graphically on games that don’t need it at all.
I’m looking at you, Horizon Zero Dawn.
In September, we saw a list of games that are to be improved by the Pro version. I’m not convinced that the new console will tangibly improve my experience. Especially at a price almost twice as high as the standard edition.
If someone is buying a PlayStation for the first time, is it worth starting with PS5 Pro? As long as you don’t require any nonsense, I would say thank you.
However, I cannot rule out that I am wrong and that next year we will get a flood of new games. In such a situation, no one would lose, right?

When productions appear that will squeeze the last juice out of fresh Japanese equipment, I will probably change my mind. Maybe because of the new GTA… but I feel like I’ll wait for that.
