SIET announced today (12/7) that the dedicated Access controller for the PS5 console will be available globally from now on. This is a truly passionate project, inspired by the accessibility community and drawing on SIE’s 28 years of design expertise and playtesting with dozens of participants across three continents to create a product with extremely high Customizable accessibility controller kits allow gamers with disabilities to play games “out of the box”, helping them play games more comfortably and for longer.

Five years ago, SIE engaged in discussions with many experts and organizations, including AbleGamers, Stack-Up and SpecialEffect, as well as PlayStation Studios, to help create novel controller designs that would have a huge impact on the accessibility community. Every aspect of the Access controller was designed in close discussion with accessibility experts, focusing on three common challenges faced by gamers with disabilities: difficulty holding a standard controller for an extended period of time, accurately pressing a set of buttons or triggers, or moving Thumbs and fingers are in the best position. Designed to solve these three challenges at once with a highly customizable gaming experience, the Access controller includes a carefully designed kit with 19 interchangeable button caps, and 3 joystick caps, each with a different shape and design. Players have the freedom to tailor these accessories to their individual strength, range of motion and physical needs, and create a personalized control configuration through a range of other hardware and software customizations:
In addition, Logitech G is expected to launch the LogitechG Adaptive Gaming Kit for Access controllers next month, providing more customization options for players with special accessibility needs.
