Recently, the PlayStation 5 UX designer turned into LinedInto talk about that new console dashboard to speak. Now seems Sony a Patent having registered the potential Multiscreen function shows, most likely for the PS5. This information comes from patentscope.wipo, a website of the World Intellectual Property Organization.
The questionable Patent was launched in December last year by Sony Interactive Entertainment filed and published on June 25, 2020. With very little information from Sony about the PS5-Software shows this Patent some potential for the upcoming console.
PS5: Possibility for multiscreen activities
There is a lot of information about the patent itself, but the website’s summary is:
“An information processing device is provided which displays a main screen with main content simultaneously with the main screen; displays a sub-screen with sub-content of a different type than the main content “
The most interesting part of this idea is that users can view both types of content at the same time, which means that the main screen and the sub-screen converge without interference.
Here’s what it looks like:
–
This is referred to as the “sub-screen” mode, in which two sets of information are displayed. The idea is that these two sets of information show different images between which you can navigate during the game. The patent itself distinguishes the two screens between the main screen and the subscreen.
It states that it should make it easier for users to navigate between these types of content:
“One of the objects of this is information that can make the content to be easily understood when several types of content are converted to an operational goal.”
This could have endless possibilities, and the patent is examining some of them. Some designs even show where and how the sub-screens would actually be used:
–
The choice of image design seems to suggest that the sub-content illustrates both gameplay and social interaction. Although this is in the Patent description itself is not directly confirmed. The greyed-out areas show how easy it would be to jump between the two without affecting the main screen.
PlayStation 5 function? What could facilitate this multiscreen activity
Among all the legal discussions, the patent describes how users can watch two video feeds at the same time or control music output:
“In both modes, the main screens and the sub-screen display can continue to update the respective screens. As a result, the user can play the game displayed on the main screen while displaying the video displayed on the sub screen, or confirm the status of the game in progress on the main screen and display the content on the sub screen. “
So the possibilities for this dual main screen / sub screen display mode could offer content outside of the game itself.
With very little information about that PS5, aside from their hardware design, can this Multiscreen function a role in the future presentation of the user interface and dashboards from Sony play.
