PS VR2 and PS VR2 Sense with full specs. Sony is preparing players for the next-gen experience

Sony once again uses CES to unveil the name of its new device – the next-gen VR goggles are officially “PlayStation VR2”, while the controllers are referred to as “PlayStation VR2 Sense”. Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience, was pleased to kick off 2022 with the first hardware information and full specification disclosure.

“PlayStation VR2 takes VR games to a whole new level by providing a greater sense of presence and allowing players to escape to the gaming world like never before. Putting on the headset and holding the controllers in their hands, players will experience an increased range of experiences that has never been before – thanks to the creativity of game worlds created by our world-class developers and the latest technology used in the equipment ”- Hideaki Nishino.

PlayStation VR2 “builds on the innovations of PS5,” offering users a truly next-gen experience. Players will experience great visuals, new features related to the feel of the game (via the controllers) and improved tracking. Everything will be available with one cable.

Sony plans to maintain “visual fidelity” by providing 4K gameplay with HDR, 110-degree field of view and foveated rendering. The rumors according to which the manufacturer is working on the OLED display have been confirmed – engineers focus on a resolution of 2000 × 2040 by eye and smooth refreshing at 90/120 Hz.

PlayStation VR2 will follow the player thanks to the headset – integrated cameras have been placed in PlayStation VR2, which will determine the movement and direction of the player, as well as where his eyesight falls. Users will not need to install external sensors.

Also confirmed “new sensory functions” – PS VR2 Sense technology combines eyeball tracking, goggle feedback, 3D sound and innovative controllersproviding an “incredibly deep immersion” in the gameplay. Sony has added a single vibration motor, which will enhance the feeling and will allow you to feel the hero’s elevated pulse in difficult moments, the rush of objects flying close to his head or the pressure of the vehicle when the character accelerates.

As insiders reported, the PS VR2 takes into account the tracking of the movement of the eyeballs, offering “A more intuitive interaction in a new and realistic way, enabling increased emotional response and enhanced expression, which provide a new level of realism in games.”

Sony also confirmed that PS VR2 Sense controllers will receive haptic vibrations and adaptive triggers, thanks to which players will feel the game even more – similar to the DualSense pad from PlayStation 5.
