The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Diego Paulsen (RN), reported this Monday that the socialist deputy Jenny Alvarez, without the complete vaccination schedule, was infected with Covid-19 and, therefore, The entire socialist caucus had to start a quarantine.
The confinement also affected officials and other members of Parliament.
Paulsen explained that the parliamentarian tested positive today and did not attend Congress On this day, however, his colleagues on the bench did, so after learning of the positive case, they withdrew from the hemicycle.
To this positive case is added another deputy, who was confirmed with Covid-19 contagion over the weekend, for which four other parliamentarians began the respective quarantine.
Deputy Paulsen specified that “All the close contacts, of the two parliamentarians who have a positive case, are already in quarantine”.
The president of the Chamber confirmed that the bench must remain in quarantine until Wednesday, for which they were asked to undergo a PCR.
Officials of Congress and the accredited press are required to be vaccinated, however, this measure does not apply to parliamentarians who, because the Constitution establishes their right to attend sessions, cannot be required to be inoculated against Covid -19.
“If it were up to me, I would not allow any parliamentarian (without a vaccine to enter). We are not in a dictatorship, we are in a democratic regime where we are all governed by the same laws and today the Constitution establishes that parliamentarians have the constitutional right to be present and I have no way of preventing a parliamentarian who has his full dose from being able to attend the Room,” he commented.
Regarding the work in the Chamber, Paulsen confirmed that the session will be held tomorrow as scheduled, however, there will be no vote on Tuesday “so as not to alter the quorum and we are going to vote on all the projects on Wednesday“.
