PS CONGRESS: Hélène Geoffroy’s motion comes first in Côte-d’Or

If Olivier Faure takes the lead at the national level, his motion fails to do the same in Côte-d’Or after the vote on January 12. The protesters of the NUPES agreement are in the majority among the socialist activists of the Côte-d’Oriens.

Updated with final national results.

Socialist Party activists were called upon to vote for the first tier of their party representation as part of the national congress process.

On January 12, the activists expressed their views on the three proposed orientation texts, making it possible to designate proportionally the composition of two thirds of the national council as well as that of the national office.

Were in the running the texts “Refound, gather, govern” carried by Hélène Geoffroy, mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin, “To win” carried by the outgoing first secretary Olivier Faure and “Refoundations” carried by Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, mayor of Rouen.

Hélène Geoffroy is one vote ahead of Olivier Faure in Côte-d’Or

This Friday, January 13, 2022, Michel Neugnot, first secretary of the Côte-d’Or federation of the Socialist Party, indicated the results.

Federation of Côte-d’Or
294 registered
205 voters
i.e. a participation rate of 69.73%
5 blank and invalid ballots
i.e. 200 expressed

In Côte-d’Or, Hélène Geoffroy’s text comes first with 76 votes (38.00%) ahead of Olivier Faure’s with 75 votes (37.50%) and Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol’s with 49 votes ( 24.50%).

Division of Dijon
154 registered
95 voters
i.e. a participation rate of 61.69%
2 invalid blank ballots
i.e. 93 expressed

Here too, Dijon activists placed Hélène Geoffroy’s text in first position with 47 votes (50.54%) ahead of that of Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol with 32 votes (34.41%) and ahead of that of Olivier Faure with 14 votes (15.05%).

“A high participation rate”

The first federal secretary of Côte-d’Or welcomes “a high participation rate” which “shows that, in our federation, there has been a debate which we can congratulate ourselves on”. The highlight having taken place on January 7 with a “militant general assembly” bringing together a hundred people to listen to three representatives of the orientation texts, including Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol in person. Michel Neugnot is delighted “with the seriousness of the debate between the militants on the three options proposed”.

At the same time, the activists voted on the activity report of the Côte-d’Or federation and approved it by 91 votes in favor despite 60 votes against and 49 abstentions.

This Saturday, January 14, the Federal Council will be formed in the light of the results of each orientation text.

National challenge

At the national level, the next stage is on January 19 with the vote to designate the first secretary of the party before the congress in Marseilles from January 27 to 29.

For the time being, the national results have not yet stabilized. If Olivier Faure came first, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol disputes the fact of having reached 50% of the votes. Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol would have collected 31.50% of the votes and Hélène Geoffroy between 19 and 21% of the votes.

The challenge is, for the two motions that contest the agreement with NUPES in which Olivier Faure participated, to be able to join forces to obtain the majority in the party’s parliament and prevent Olivier Faure from being reappointed as first secretary.

Updated on January 13, 2023:

The final results give 49.15% of the votes to the orientation text carried by Olivier Faure, 30.51% for Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol and 20.34% for Hélène Geoffroy.
