Pruning Courses in November and December: Learn Orchard and Spindle/Berries Cutting Techniques with the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald District Office

The teaching and experimental garden of the Agriculture Department of the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald District Office offers two pruning courses in November and December.

From November 23rd to 25th, 2023, the orchard pruning course will focus on cutting trees of all types of fruit and tree shapes such as semi-stem and standard trees in gardens and orchards. The theoretical part on Thursday, November 23rd, will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the district office’s branch office at Europaplatz in Breisach. The practical days on Friday, November 24th, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday, November 25th, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. will then be carried out in the participants’ gardens and orchards. The speakers are Hansjörg Haas, Stefanie Lapcik, Stephan Schätzle and Tobias Schneider. The participation fee is 100 euros. The registration deadline is November 15, 2023

The spindle and berries cutting course will follow on December 8th and 9th, 2023. This is about cutting spindles, i.e. small-crowned trees of all tree fruit types, and berries. The course starts on Friday, December 8th, with the theoretical part from 9:00 a.m. in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district office branch at Europaplatz 1 in Breisach. The practical part follows in the afternoon until 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 9th, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the teaching and experimental garden for fruit growing in Freiburg-Opfingen. The speakers are Stefanie Lapcik, Stephan Schätzle and Tobias Schneider. The participation fee for this course is 75 euros. The registration deadline is November 30, 2023.

It is important to wear weatherproof clothing for all courses. Tools such as hand scissors and saws should be brought with you if you have them. Participants who make their gardens available are asked to provide at least one ladder. There is no insurance cover for accidents caused by yourself; participation is at your own risk.
