Proximus wants to realize 65,000 fiber connections in West Flanders – IT Pro – News

Do you happen to live in a neighborhood with detached houses?

I think that’s the answer to the reason why Proximus is rolling out fiber quickly in certain places and not in other places. In our street, the new fiber cable is simply attached to the facade (next to the coax that is already there). In a street with detached houses, they have to be underground everywhere because you cannot lay the cable over facades, so the rollout is more expensive and requires more time/organization.

Well, they also went underground in the street around the corner, but that was because there are quite a few houses with historic facades there and they just needed that street to provide the entire block with fiberglass.

Oh and the focus on West Flanders may be because their network there more often has to bridge a greater distance, so that the copper cables cannot compete with Telenet?
