A 68-year-old man, responsible for a terrible road accident in Faugères, has just been placed in custody. This Wednesday, April 14, while passing several cars, he hit a biker head-on, a 59-year-old man who died in the collision. He will be judged on June 2 and risk a heavy penalty in view of the seriousness of the facts.
A series of imprudences
The accident occurred around 8 am, while he was driving towards Béziers on the RD909A departmental road. At Height of Faugères, he began to overtake despite the white line and the lack of visibility. He goes up a long line of six to seven cars. When he sees the two-wheeler, it is too late: he tries to fall back but loses control. The rider is thrown several meters. This 59-year-old resident of Magalas, a seasoned biker, is dead on the spot as he left for work.

The driver admitted the facts. He had neither alcohol nor drugs in his blood, but a heavy liability. Already convicted 3 times for traffic offenses, he was driving without license since 2004, and without insurance. He will be tried on June 2, this time for manslaughter with aggravating circumstances – driving without a license and deliberate violation of an obligation of safety or caution. He incurs the maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment.
