London –
There was a big doubt when Kalvin Phillips go into England National Team for Euro 2020. As a result, he was able to answer the public’s doubts.
England started their journey in Group D of Euro 2020 by hosting Croatia at Wembley Stadium, Sunday (13/6/2021) evening WIB. Team made Gareth Southgate down with a 4-2-3-1 formation, which put Phillips as a double pivot with Declan Rice.
Phillips played a good role in maintaining the balance of England from the transition from defense to attack. Leeds United’s defensive midfielder even contributed an assist for England’s only goal scored by Raheem Sterling.
“There’s been a lot of talk about me and Declan Rice fighting for a position but when we played together I thought we played really well. It was an honor to play with him,” Phillips told the BBC.
“It’s a good result and I’m happy with my performance. There are two group games left and we have to play like this – or not better.”
Phillips has only made nine appearances for the England national team since his debut in August 2020. This is also his first assist with The Three Lions.
“It’s a great feeling to get an assist and a great feeling for the three points. I’m relaxed – I’m the kind of person who doesn’t care about criticism of me. I just try and take it calmly,” the 25-year-old revealed.
“If I don’t have a team around me and a coaching staff around me to calm me down, then I don’t think it’s possible.”
