Provincial Council of Albacete, at the Foundation for Democracy and Local Government

The president of the Provincial Council of Albacete, Santi Cabañero, participated this Monday in the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Democracy and Local Government which was held at the Hotel Villa Rea in Madrid and in which the integration of the Provincial Council of Albacete as patron of the said Foundation, as well as the Council of the island of Mallorca.

According to a press release, previously, the Plenary of the Provincial Council (in the ordinary session of 1 September) had unanimously approved the proposal of the government team to become part of this Foundation, with the aim of continuing to collaborate online, affirming the essential role of Local Governments, promoting their institutional quality and political leadership; make them more efficient for citizens in the provision of public services, as well as in relations with the rest of the Administrations; and strengthen its democratic legitimacy and citizens’ trust.

With this integration, now fully formalised, the institution headed by Cabañero remains steadfast in its commitment to work to defend the interests of the province of Albacete and those who live and develop in it, as well as in its desire to cooperate with the rest of the fabric (institutional, administrative, entrepreneurial and social) as it implies the economic and social progress of the territory.

The objective of the Foundation, established in 2002, is precisely to contribute and support actions and initiatives of all kinds for knowledge, study, dissemination and advice on local government matters.

A forum conceived as a meeting point and exchange of experiences in which its participants can coordinate efforts by promoting the development of their functions of support and assistance to local authorities: fundamental pillars in the consolidation of democracy and the ‘welfare state’ in our country.

The Foundation for Democracy and Local Government already has 27 trustees. To those already mentioned of Albacete and Mallorca, the Provincial Councils of A Coruña, Alicante, Ávila, Badajoz, Barcelona, ​​​​​​Burgos, Cáceres, Girona, Granada, Huesca, Jaén, León, Lleida, Lugo, Málaga, Ourense, Pontevedra, Segovia, Seville, Valencia, Valladolid, Zamora and Zaragoza, as well as the Island Councils of Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
