The four Tarifa athletes are part of the cast of 70 Cadiz athletes whom the Provincial Council wanted to recognize with cash prizes worth 61,000 euros.
The Provincial Council of Cádiz has made public the final resolution of the call for Awards for Outstanding Athletes in the province of Cádiz during the year 2023 and Among them, he has recognized the achievements of four Tarifeños.
They are about young people, Nía Suardiaz, Noah Nicolas in the sailing category and María Mercedes Fernández Gainza, Álvaro Gainza Rodríguez and Juan Pérez Chico in the table tennis category. The Provincial Council of Cádiz, through its Sports Service, aims to offer public recognition to these athletes, who bear the name of the province wherever the competition takes them, also providing them with financial aid that helps alleviate the expenses they bear throughout the season.
Such are the cases of Nía Suardiaz and Nicolas Noah the first has obtained a prize of 2,000 euros for having been proclaimed last year champion of the Wing foil GWA World Cup. The same amount has been received Noah for winning the youth world championship in strapless freestyle and big air kitesurfing.
For its part, María Mercedes Gainza has obtained 540 euros for her second place in the Spanish table tennis championshipwhile his partner Juan Pérez Chico has won 900 euros for having achieved second place in the same championship, while Álvaro Gainza has been awarded 900 euros for becoming Champion of the Spanish Championship.
By virtue of the resolution, the Provincial Council has granted a total of 70 awards to 36 men and 34 women, with a total prize amount of 61,645 euros. The sports modalities of the winners are athletics, cycling, football, gymnastics, golf, weightlifting, horse riding, judo, wrestling, swimming, canoeing, rowing, skateboarding, surfing, taekwondo, table tennis, Olympic shooting, triathlon and sailing.
By locality, 7 people from Algeciras have been awarded, 1 from Arcos de la Frontera, 8 from Cádiz, 6 from Chiclana de la Frontera, 2 from Conil de la Frontera, 11 from El Puerto de Santa María, 5 from Jerez de la Frontera, 4 from La Línea de la Concepción, 3 from Los Barrios, 7 from San Fernando, 1 from San Roque, 3 from Sanlúcar de Barrameda, 1 from Setenil de las Bodegas, 5 of Tarifa, 1 from San Martín del Tesorillo, 2 from Ubrique, 3 from Vejer de la Frontera and 1 from Villamartín.
The winners are non-professional athletes born on or after December 31, 2009, including in the province of Cádiz, or, failing that, they have a federation license with a sports entity in the province, as well as their habitual residence in the province.
