In Hindeloopen, extra sandbags and concrete blocks were placed on Wednesday to protect a holiday park against the water of the IJsselmeer. Earlier in the day, large sandbags were also placed on the boulevard at Makkum.
Wetterskip Fryslân remains alert to the water level. The water level reached its highest point on Tuesday, about twenty centimeters higher than the water board considers desirable. The fact that the level in the IJsselmeer was almost one meter higher caused problems with drainage. It was also difficult to drain the Wadden Sea.
District manager Gosse Spoelstra says that it was also necessary to place smaller sandbags at Broek. “This low part is a bathtub, the water comes up from there.”
