The City of Providence announced Monday that it has updated its vaccination policy to allow city employees who are not fully vaccinated to be tested.
In a statement, the city says that starting Tuesday, employees who are not fully vaccinated can submit two negative COVID-19 tests weekly.
The city cites the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s new method of determining community risk as a factor in making these changes, according to WJAR.
Under the new method, Providence County is considered low risk.
“We have made incredible progress in vaccinating our workforce, and I thank all City employees who stepped up to protect themselves, their co-workers and our community,” Mayor Jorge Elorza said in a statement. release.
The new changes take effect March 8 and include making face coverings optional in city buildings.
The city says city employees and visitors are encouraged to continue practicing COVID-19 safety measures.
