Human papilloma vaccines are safe and effective; Clinical studies show that the bivalent is 98% effective in preventing cancers associated with HPV types 16 and 18, and the quadrivalent has been shown to be 100% effective in preventing genital warts, said the Colima State Government Health Secretariat, explain that there are two types of vaccines against the Human Papilloma Virus: the first is the quadrivalent, which protects against HPV serotypes 6, 12, 16 and 18, and the second is the bivalent, against serotypes 16 and 18.

Specifically, serotypes 16 and 18 are associated with cancer of the cervix and other locations (anal, vulvar, and penile, among others); while serotypes 6 and 11 are associated with benign lesions such as accumulated condyloma, recurrent laryngeal papillomatosis, and conjunctival papillomas and carcinomas.

The State Coordination of Vaccination pointed out that, although vaccination has proven to be very effective in preventing infection with HPV types 16 and 18 -responsible for 70% of cases of cervical-uterine cancer worldwide-, the vaccine is not used to kill HPV once a person has been infected.

For this reason, he stressed the importance of vaccinating girls before they start their sexual life, since, for example, the World Health Organization (WHO) has established that the best way to prevent HPV is to get vaccinated before starting sexual activities.

The state agency reiterated that this vaccine is being applied as a single dose to girls who are in the first and second grade of secondary school, and thirteen and fourteen years old who are not in school, as well as three doses to cisgender and transgender women from 11 to 49 years old. who live with HIV.
