Beijing –
Industry chip China will be reborn as a result of United States sanctions. So said by the Chinese telecommunications giant Huaweiwhich called for an important breakthrough in China in semiconductor design technology.
Eric Xu as co-CEO of Huawei, voiced opposition to restrictions on US technology exports in China. “I believe China’s semiconductor industry will not remain silent, but will take efforts to strengthen itself and become self-sufficient,” he said.
“To Huawei, we will provide our support for all efforts to rescue, strengthen and self-reliance of China’s semiconductor industry,” he added. detikINET from CNBC, Sunday (2/34/2023).
The semiconductor or chip industry has become a focus in the US and China’s technology war. In recent years, Washington has sought to stop China and its companies by imposing sanctions and limiting exports.
In 2019, Huawei was included in a US blacklist called the Entity List, barring US companies from selling technology to Chinese companies. This includes chips for 5G products.
Washington then made chip restrictions wider last year, aiming to limit China’s access to critical semiconductor technologies in the artificial intelligence sector and more advanced applications. The US is concerned that China may use advanced semiconductors for military purposes.
So according to Xu, this development can actually encourage rather than hinder China’s domestic semiconductor industry. “I believe China’s semiconductor industry will be reborn under the sanctions and realize a very strong and independent industry,” said Xu.
Chinese companies are now also trying to develop the tools needed for semiconductors at home. Last week, Chinese media reported Xu saying that Huawei and other domestic companies jointly created the electronic chip design tools needed to make semiconductors measuring 14 nanometers and above. The tools will be verified this year, allowing them to be used.
