Prosecutors say they need the reports to see what the suspects have told the investigation committee under oath. “It is clear that the interviews conducted by the commission are not only potentially relevant to the criminal prosecution in general, but are likely to be relevant to specific criminal cases that have already begun,” Washington District Attorneys said.
The committee chair, Democrat Bennie Thompson, said on Thursday that the committee — which also includes some Republicans — will “share the reports eventually” but that “the committee has its own timetable.”
US prosecutors have charged hundreds of individuals who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6. Several members of the Proud Boys and another far-right organization, Oath Keepers, have been charged with conspiracy.
