Protests in New York over the police shooting of an African-American man in Wisconsin

Hundreds of people marched through the streets of Manhattan on Monday to show their anger and rejection of the incident that occurred in the state of Wisconsin in which an African-American was shot several times. on the back of the police as they walked away from the officers.

The protest began at 5 in the afternoon in the central Times Square and then moved down Fifth Avenue in Manhattan to Washington Square Park.

During the march, attendees, carrying portraits of the victim, Jacob Blake, shouted “How do you spell murderers?” NYPD (New York Police) ”or“ These racist cops must go away ”.

At the head of the march, the protesters carried a large sign calling for the resignation of both US President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

The rally comes after Blake was shot in the back and up close on Sunday by police officers, an incident captured on video and that has unleashed a wave of outrage.

Blake is at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee in serious condition, local authorities reported Monday.

The incident follows massive protests over the May 25 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota., who was suffocated by a white cop.

A few hours after the incident, the city of Kenosha (Wisconsin), where it took place, was already registering protests.

At around 10pm local time, protesters marched towards the Kenosha Public Security Building chanting “No justice, no peace.”

An hour later a municipal garbage collection truck, positioned to prevent the passage to the police headquarters, was engulfed in flames as police fired tear gas grenades, local media images show.

Some protesters also broke the windows of some shops and burned vehicles that were parked on the street.

Local authorities declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew, which began at midnight and lasted until seven in the morning this Monday.
