The deceased’s family told the portal tut.bythat the man did not participate in the protests, and last weekend he was with them at the dacha. “We have no idea how he ended up with Akrescin, but we know he wasn’t involved,” said a family member.

Detention in Salihorsk

About 20 people were detained on Saturday by the militia in Salihorsk, in the central part of Belarus. According to the strike committee of Belaruśkalij, most of them are its members.

Among the detainees was a member of the strike committee and a former Belarusian volleyball representative, Siarhei Taras, who became a miner after the end of his sports career. In August, he backed a strike against the rigging of presidential election results and was dismissed from his job.

According to the independent Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAŻ), three journalists were also detained in Salihorsk and later released.

In Minsk, the women’s solidarity campaign “Flower March” ended without incident. Due to mass detentions during the last Saturday protests, this time the participants changed their tactics and instead of gathering in one large demonstration, they walked in smaller groups along the Independence Avenue with flowers in their hands. Some were dressed in white and red, i.e. the color of the white-red-white flag used by the Belarusian opposition.

The head of the portal describing opposition actions was detained

In Gomel, in the east of Belarus, Hanna Jaksztas, head of the independent portal Silnyje Nowosti, which reported on the actions of the opposition, was detained. Her husband Dzianis, who works for the portal, was also arrested. They will both be brought to trial on Monday. Radio Swaboda informed about the detention of journalists.

Interfax-Zapad agency said on Saturday, citing police in Gomel, that the marriage was detained “as part of an administrative process”. The police took the computer equipment, but did not conduct a search – added the agency’s interlocutor. However, according to Radio Swaboda, the militia carried out some kind of search.

Journalists were detained on the basis of the regulations on meetings held without permission, although they were present at these actions as representatives of the media.

Silnyje Novosti is the most popular news portal in Gomel. The editorial office ensures that it is the most read regional news portal in Belarus.

Militia: foreign journalists will be considered participants at the demonstrations

Po canceling the accreditation of foreign journalists working in Belarus They will be treated during the demonstrations as participants in these rallies, the police said on Saturday. Only officially registered media can report the protests.

Foreign correspondents can work during protests only if they have valid accreditation. Meanwhile, on Friday, they were canceled, also in the case of the PAP correspondent in Minsk. All foreign correspondents must undergo re-accreditation by submitting an appropriate application to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

Recognition of journalists as participants in protests means that they will be punished with an administrative penalty for their presence at these meetings, e.g. a fine or arrest.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday that the current regulations for the accreditation of foreign journalists were adopted in 2008 and “no longer corresponded to the level of development of the media branch and new trends in legislation”. From Monday, October 5, the correspondent accreditation commission will start work in a new composition.

Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman: proposals to limit embassy staff are binding

The proposals of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding reduction in the number of diplomatic staff at the Lithuanian and Polish embassies in Minsk are binding, inform the RIA Nowosti and TASS agencies on Saturday, citing the words of the press spokesman of the Ministry, Anatol Hłaz.

“I do not know, perhaps because the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Linas Linkeviczius, has long plunged into politics, forgot some diplomatic phrases and terms. We can easily explain it. First, our proposals are only within the sovereign rights of Belarus and has an obligation and did not intend to discuss them with the Lithuanian side. If they depart from diplomatic casuistry, it means that the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is obliged to fulfill such proposals “- said Hłaz.

On Friday, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry demanded that the Polish and Lithuanian embassies limit the number of diplomats in Belarus. “Due to the clearly destructive activity of Poland and Lithuania, it was proposed that by October 9, 2020 they should equate the composition of their diplomatic missions in Belarus with Belarusian foreign missions in individual countries” – said Hłaz on Friday.

The head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Linkevichius, announced on Friday that Vilnius is not considering dismissing the ambassador and other diplomats from Belarus in response to Minsk’s diplomatic actions. He informed that Lithuania “coordinates its actions with Poland”.

“Together with @LinkeviciusL, we are convinced that the communication channels must be preserved and at this stage we do not intend to call our Ambassadors for consultations,” said Zbigniew Rau, the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.

As Hłaz explained, there should be 18 diplomats in the Polish embassy instead of 50, and in the Lithuanian embassy – 14 instead of 25. According to diplomatic sources, there are 53 diplomatic positions in Polish missions in Belarus.

A spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Belarusian ambassadors in Warsaw and Vilnius will be called to Minsk for consultations on October 5. He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs invites the Polish and Lithuanian ambassadors in Minsk to follow their example.
