– the European Council tasked the European Commission to develop and design the economic plan for Belarus; the case of Belarus is also a matter of the EU, said Prime Minister Morawiecki.
He recalled that after his call for an extraordinary EU summit on Belarus, there were some skeptical voices. – Now, after these two days of the CoE meeting, one can say with full conviction – the issue of Belarus is also a matter for the EU – he added.
Aid plan for Belarus
The head of the Polish government recalled the “Economic plan for a democratic Belarus”, which he presented in September in Vilnius, then to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and on Thursday to EU leaders.
– After a long debate that lasted late at night, this plan was also adopted by the CoE and the CoE tasked the European Commission from this point of view to develop this plan and dress it up in specific projects, programs – said Morawiecki. – It will be support for small and medium-sized enterprises, visa-free travel and a stabilization fund. We also reach out to all democratic initiatives in Belarus – he enumerated.
– We have finally unblocked the process of imposing sanctions on persons guilty of violence and forgery in Belarus. About 40 people will be subject to sanctions and this is also in line with our goal, said the head of the Polish government.
The prime minister calls on Nord Stream 2
Morawiecki – referring to the poisoning of Alexei Navalny – emphasized that he called for the suspension of the construction of Nord Stream 2. – It is an element of politics and geopolitics, carried out consistently by the Russian Federation. Russia conducts its aggressive policy in various ways, from military aggression – which we have dealt with in Georgia, Ukraine – through poisoning citizens, sanctions on its part, economic embargoes, trade wars and thus a much stronger economic organism such as the EU should be able to respond to such an aggressive policy said the Prime Minister.
