Protests in Almaty police detained over a hundred protesters

In Almaty, security officials detained more than a hundred people at the site of an action by a group to create the Democratic Party of Kazakhstan. Another fifty were detained during the dispersal of the “Wake up, Kazakhstan” march.

The action to create the Democratic Party of Kazakhstan was held next to the Almaty Arena sports complex. The protesters stood up for improving the social situation of the population and demanded a reduction in gas prices. After a while, the security forces began to detain the protesters and put them in paddy wagons.

At the same time, dozens of members of the “Wake up, Kazakhstan” action with similar slogans were protesting near the Park of the first president. The security forces also blocked their way and began to carry out arrests. All the detainees were taken to the police stations in Auezov and Bostanditsky districts.

What preceded the protest

Mass protests in Kazakhstan continue for the third day in a row. It all started after the rise in prices for liquefied gas. However, the demands of the protesters have expanded. From now on, protesting, they want not only the resignation of the government, but also the eradication of corruption and the exit from the policy of Nursultan Nazarbayev.
