Protests have not stopped in Khabarovsk for more than four months / Article / LSM.lv

In Russia’s Far East, a protest movement in support of former Khabarovsk region governor Sergei Furgal has been stalling in Khabarovsk for more than four months.

Even today, on November 14, several hundred demonstrators took to the streets of the city. Several hundred people have gathered near the county administration building. Later, the participants of the rally marched through the main streets of the city, meanwhile, the police repeatedly reminded the participants of the campaign that due to the pandemic, holding mass events in the region is prohibited.

Protests in Khabarovsk take place almost every day, but they are especially large on Saturdays. Actions in support of Khabarovsk protesters have taken place in many other Russian cities.

CONTEXT

Protests in Khabarovsk began after the arrest of Governor Sergei Furgal in early July, linking his name to the murders of two businessmen in 2005 and 2006. Furgala supporters are convinced that it was a political showdown with the popular governor, who managed to defeat a representative of the ruling United Russia party.
