Protests Erupt in Georgia Against Controversial Foreign Influence Bill Dubbed ‘Russian Law’ by Patriotic Citizens

Protests against a controversial foreign influence bill, which lawmakers have approved for further debate, continue actively in Georgia. Patriotic Georgians have called it “Russian law”.

The law would require non-governmental organizations and media that receive more than 20% of foreign funding to register as organizations “working for the benefit of a foreign country”.

The bill was submitted by the ruling party of Georgia for the Kremlin “Georgia Dream”. According to the patriotic citizens of Georgia, this law will hinder the entry of Georgia into the European Union, as well as promote the influence of Russia in this country.

The opposition politician Aleko Elisashvili became very angry and at the meeting in Tbilisi, he threw himself at one of the leaders of the “Georgian Dream”, Mamuku Mdinaradze, giving him a rather impressive blow to the face.

“For the sake of Georgia, I am ready to suffer pain,” Elisashvili was emotional. “We don’t have time to be polite if they try to drag us into Russia! Sorry, but either we are Georgians or slaves and we are not slaves. It was a blow to the face of Russian Mdinaradze!”
