Protests Erupt in France After Police Shooting of 17-Year-Old Boy

Protests are flaring up in France after police officers shot and killed a 17-year-old boy who failed to stop a car on demand. Most of all, the riots affected one of the districts of Paris – Nanterre. However, several protests have also been registered in the cities of Asnières, Colombes, Suresnes, Aubervilliers, Clichy-sous-Bois and Mantes-la-Jolie. People burn cars, destroy bus stops, and set off fireworks en masse.

About it writes BBC.

A video has already appeared on social networks in which two police officers stop a car, but the driver does not obey. The police officer points a gun at the driver of the car, after which a shot is heard. Arriving at the scene, paramedics tried to save the life of a teenager, but he died. Law enforcement officers detained an officer who was charged with murder.

In addition to the driver, there were two passengers in the car. One of them was able to escape, and the second was detained and taken into custody.

The incident sparked protests that initially erupted in the Nanterre area where the guy was shot dead. Protesters set fire to cars and garbage cans, destroyed bus stops and set off fireworks near the police station. The security forces responded by using tear gas to disperse the protesters, but some of them built barricades all night. Subsequently, several riots took place in other communes and cities in France.

Paris police chief Laurent Nunez said the actions of the policeman raise questions. However, he suggested that the law enforcement officer could feel threatened in this situation.

Previously, Cursor reported on an emergency that occurred in the center of Paris. A powerful explosion occurred near the Louvre, which led to the complete destruction of part of the historic building. The fire that broke out caused debris to fall onto the road.
