Vox’s declarations of its intention that – now that the party will take over the Festejos department – the city does not host music shows in Asturian has put a large part of the region’s artistic union on alert. A group of professionals linked to Asturian music, under the motto “Música n’asturianu YES”, has just launched an online manifesto with which they seek to collect signatures from people linked to the guild, whether they are singers, composers or businessmen related to the sector . “They are creating a problem where there is none and this must have an answer,” he justifies Xicu Arizaone of the promoters of the initiative, which will close its deadline for collecting support this Sunday and will make public the signatures gathered next week.
The protest intends, say its promoters, “to make it clear that saying and doing atrocities like these cannot come for free.” The manifesto is accompanied by an argument, a kind of explanatory statement, in which the artists defend that “vetoing” Asturian music is “a very serious violation of rights”, and recalls that professionals linked to the sector “pay their taxes”. and therefore have the same rights to live from their work. “We feel arguyu for Asturias”, defend the protesters, who encourage other artists and creators to join their initiative.
In addition, Andecha Astur has filed a complaint with the Superior Prosecutor of Asturias against the Gijon mayor of Vox Sara Álvarez Rouco for an alleged hate crime and for this same controversial statement, which arose in an interview on Onda Cero and in which the councilor explained that her party wanted to hire Asturian artists but, “if we can”, not those who sing in Asturian. Andecha Astur considers that this statement implies “discriminating against part of the population”.
