Protests continue in NYC over the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Groups of people turned out for a rally at the National Home of Ukraine, located in the East Village, to show solidarity with the difficult times the community known as Little Ukraine is going through.

During the event, attendees and elected officials denounced the military actions ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin and made clear support for the Ukrainian people.

According to Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, New York City should take tougher action against the Russian oligarchy.

“We need to be part of the sanctions regime because this is a city that for decades has provided security for the assets of the oligarchs who have acquired luxurious apartments to launder their money. We need to confiscate said assets and properties,” Lavine said.

Those present called on Western nations to provide more help to Ukraine to fight against Russia.

For their slogans, they also translated the first stanza of the Ukrainian national anthem that says: “Glory and freedom have not died in Ukraine” and joined voices to make it so.
