Protests and Violence in Andhra Pradesh after Chandrababu Naidu’s Arrest: Latest Updates

The bandh was called by the TDP in protest against the arrest of Chandrababu Naidu, former Chief Minister of Hyderabad Andhra Pradesh and president of the TDP (Telugudesam Party). Protests turned violent in many parts of the state. Several TDP leaders, including former minister Paritala Sunitha, were put under house arrest. In some areas, shops and educational institutions did not function. Traffic came to a standstill on the Chittoor-Puthoor National Highway after protestors including women blocked the road and burnt tyres. However, APSRTC sources said that long distance buses and city buses have been operated. Visakhapatnam, a major industrial area, was not affected much by the bandh. Police informed that there are no major incidents of violence and the situation is under control. Chandrababu Naidu was arrested in a Rs 371 crore corruption case related to the Skill Development Scheme. Naidu is currently in Rajahmundry Central Jail after he was remanded in 14-day judicial custody by the Anti-Corruption Bureau court. Read on deshabhimani.com
