Protests against AfD party conference in Dresden

Dresden. Hundreds of people gathered at the exhibition grounds on Saturday to demonstrate against the federal party conference of the AfD in Dresden.

The alliance “Dresden Nazifrei” and other organizations had announced several meetings. A bicycle parade that was supposed to start in the morning from Neustadt and Löbtau was initially forbidden by the public order office. On Friday evening the administrative court decided that the parade from Neustadt could take place.

Since there was no legal objection for the other route, about 40 people with bicycles gathered at Conert-Platz, but drove from there in small groups to the fair.

Around 9 a.m., around 300 demonstrators had arrived there. They shouted “nationalism out of our heads” and “all together against fascism”. Compared to the protest against the state party conference of the AfD at the beginning of February, the mood was more heated. The police were also more present and tried to keep the demonstrators away from the arriving delegates.

Roads were also closed, not least in order not to hinder the access and operation of the nearby vaccination center. Time and again, small groups of demonstrators tried to block the entrances from the parking lot to the fair. There were minor scuffles.

However, the police did not use force to break up the sit-ins and temporarily diverted the arriving vehicles.
