Protesting farmers blocked the N233 near Rhenen with tractors for a short time on Thursday evening. The police were present and told the farmers to leave.
At around 6:45 p.m., the police reported that the farmers had left and the road had been reopened. No arrests have been made.
The farmers had parked about ten tractors at the Rijnbrug in Utrecht. As a result, traffic around Rhenen came to a complete standstill during the evening rush hour.
There was also a “demonstration with vehicles” on the nearby N225, the ANWB reports. Traffic between Wageningen and Rhenen was affected by this.
According to the ANWB, the road in the direction of Veenendaal was closed between the connection with the A15 and Kesteren.
The Rijnbrug is located on the border of Gelderland and Utrecht and is often used during rush hour by traffic that wants to avoid traffic jams on the A2. Many road users also cross the Rhine bridge from the A12 to the A15.

Farmer’s protest in The Hague
Earlier on Thursday, Farmers Defense Force (FDF) organized a farmers’ demonstration in The Hague. Only a few hundred people showed up.
Participants in the protest who were on their way to the House of Representatives were turned away by the police. Officers called on demonstrators to return to the Malieveld.
An emergency order had been in effect in The Hague since early Thursday morning. Several tractors were taken off the road on the A28 near Nunspeet in Gelderland.
At least seven people have been arrested around the protest in The Hague, the police report Twitter. This happened, among other things, for non-compliance with a claim and because of abuse. Two police officers suffered minor injuries during an arrest.
