Thousands of people protested in the Serbian capital Belgrade against the results of the parliamentary and municipal elections. These were won yesterday by the SNS party of President Vucic and Prime Minister Brnabic.
The SNS also emerged as the winner in Belgrade. According to the opposition, this is due to fraud on a large scale. Tens of thousands of SNS members from outside the capital are said to have been taken by bus to Belgrade to vote in the municipal elections.
The participants of the protest gathered in Belgrade this evening in front of the electoral council building. They shouted “Thieves, thieves” and “We will not let our votes be stolen”, and threw tomatoes, eggs and rolls of toilet paper.
Two opposition leaders said they will go on a hunger strike inside the building until the Belgrade election results are annulled and residents can vote again.

In the provisional results, the SNS received 47 percent of the votes in the parliamentary elections, the largest opposition party SPN 23 percent. If this remains the case, the SNS will gain more than half of the seats in parliament.
For the Belgrade City Council the differences are smaller. There the SNS received 38 percent of the votes, the SPN 35 percent.
International observers and local media also report possible election fraud, both in the elections in Belgrade and abroad.
