Protesters Interrupt US Defense and State Officials’ Interrogation Session, Demand Ceasefire in Gaza and Ukraine

Washington (AFP) – On Tuesday, demonstrators interrupted the interrogation session of the US Secretary of Defense and State in Congress, about increasing support directed to Ukraine and Israel, and chanted demands to “save the children of Gaza” and “ceasefire now,” addressing the audience, “Shame on all of you.”

Several people stood in silence, raising their palms stained with red dye, symbolizing the bloodshed in the Gaza Strip, and they were sitting behind both Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken as they attended a session of a specialized parliamentary committee.

Then some of them started standing up from time to time to chant, “Stop shooting now.” “Save the children of Gaza,” one protester shouted. “Shame on you all.”

While another demonstrator chose to wear a jacket that read, “Stop funding genocide.”

Blinken was forced to stop speaking several times until the police removed the protesters from the hall.

US President Joe Biden asked Congress 10 days ago to approve the allocation of more than 105 billion additional dollars, including 14.3 billion going to Israel.

On Tuesday, the Israeli army said that it was waging “fierce battles” inside the Gaza Strip with Hamas fighters, with the Hebrew state expanding its ground operations as part of the war against the Palestinian movement.

The Hamas Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday morning that the death toll in the Israeli bombing in the Gaza Strip had risen to 8,525, most of them civilians, including 3,542 children. While the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, described what the residents of the Gaza Strip have been going through since the start of the war as “more than catastrophic.”

Israel declares a war to “eliminate” Hamas in response to the attack the latter carried out inside its territory on October 7, which killed 1,400 people, most of them civilians, according to the Israeli authorities.
