Protesters in Canada want investigation after finding anonymous graves at boarding schools

In the Canadian capital Ottawa, hundreds of protesters have called for an investigation into boarding schools for children of indigenous peoples. The demonstrators are angry after the discovery of hundreds of anonymous graves at several former boarding schools in recent months.

The protest went from Prime Minister Trudeau’s office to the Justice Department in Ottawa. Hundreds of people came to a call from the social-democratic New Democratic Party. According to MP Mumilaaq Qaqqaq, who comes from the northern territory of Nunavut, the indigenous peoples “need truth and justice”.

She calls for a special prosecutor and a full investigation, with international observers, into Canada’s “crimes against indigenous peoples”. She also lashed out at Prime Minister Trudeau and Justice Minister Lametti. According to her, they should take action and start an investigation.
