Anti-war campaigns in Russian cities that began on Sunday, the members of which are being massively detained, are reported on the Telegram website by Meduza.
Anti-war campaigns have taken place throughout Russia, from the Far East and Siberia to Moscow and St. Petersburg.
At present, 2,575 people have been detained in 49 cities in protest of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the NGO OVD-Info reports.
The police treat the demonstrators with great cruelty.
For example, Yekaterinburg reports that police are pushing protesters to the ground and kicking their feet. Electroshock devices have also been used against protesters.
According to OVD-Info, about 1,700 people have been detained in Moscow out of about 2,500 protesters, 750 in St. Petersburg, 750 in Novosibirsk, 206 in Yekaterinburg, 122 in Tyumen, 89 in Perm, 78 in Krasnoyarsk, 66 in Irkutsk, Ufa – 50, Chelyabinsk – 43, Omsk – 26.
Among those detained in Moscow’s Manege Square is Oleg Orlov, one of the leading activists of the Russian human rights organization Memorial, which has been disbanded by the Russian authorities.
Svetlana Ganushkin, a veteran of the Russian human rights movement, who was once nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, was also detained on her 80th birthday.
One of the detainees’ transport vehicles is reported to have overturned on its way to a police station in Moscow. At least nine people have been injured in the car accident.
OVD-Info reports that the number of people detained in anti-war campaigns since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24 has exceeded 10,000.
