Dutch police dispersed a protest against restrictions imposed by the coronavirus epidemic in downtown Amsterdam on Saturday.
According to a report by the Dutch news agency ANP, authorities surrounded about a thousand demonstrators at the historic canal district and took others to the outskirts of the city. Protective masks were also distributed to those who “forgot” about epidemiological regulations. No arrests were reported.
In the Netherlands, in recent weeks, people have raised their voices against epidemiological restrictions in a number of movements, with some of the protests leading to violence.
The number of new infections a day began to rise again in the country. According to health authorities, more than 7,650 cases were recorded between Friday morning and Saturday morning, the highest daily value since early January.
According to data from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore on Sunday morning, 1,211,447 people in the country have contracted the coronavirus since the outbreak, and 16,395 have died.
