New Delhi: The party high command has instructed the state Congress leadership to take to the streets without making protest statements against the youth Congress workers who displayed black flags against the New Kerala Yatra and were beaten up by the Chief Minister’s gunman. It has assessed that the state leadership’s protests against Youth Congress workers were not strong enough when they were confronted by gunmen and DYFIs on the streets.
KC Venugopal, General Secretary of Organizational Affairs held a discussion in Parliament with KPCC President K. Sudhakaran in this regard.
The position of the national leadership is that top leaders of the state should take to the streets, including demonstrating to the police chief’s office, and that statements alone are not enough. When even a differently-abled Youth Congress worker faces beatings on the streets, the voice of protest raised by the state leadership against it is not sharp enough.
Strong protest programs are necessary to raise public awareness against the Navakerala Yatra and to counter it politically. The state leadership should come forward to support the Youth Congress workers. Venugopal also suggested that necessary strike programs should be formed.
