Protest nightclubs went quietly in most places, hefty fine in Tilburg

Poppodium 013 in Tilburg was fined 10,000 euros because a party was going on after 10 p.m. Despite the fine, the party was able to continue. A party in Het Patronaat in Haarlem was ended. Boas ordered the club to stop performing at 10:45 PM, after which the public left the venue.

The municipality of Amsterdam warned in advance with a fine of 4500 euros for clubs that kept their doors open after 10 p.m. As far as is known, however, no action was taken in the capital.

Ten locations in Utrecht received a verbal warning. Poppodium De Helling received according to RTV Utrecht also a written warning with the call to close by 2:30 am at the latest. That was obeyed.

illegal parties

In Maastricht and Groningen, among others, the night catering industry decided to refrain from participating in the protest because of the risk of high fines. A large, illegal party took place in both cities. Just after midnight, however, both parties had already stopped.

With the action, nightclubs and discotheques protested against the current corona measures. The promotion was announced last week by the sector organization Nachtbelang and the Amsterdam Clubs Consultation (OAC).

The initiators say they are tired of the fact that the government’s plans to reopen society do not include nightlife. Clubs across the country joined the campaign. Pieter Kroon, of the Chicago Social Club in Amsterdam, called the evening ‘successful’.
