A painting by the French post-impressionist painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was attacked in fake blood at the Alte National Galerie in Berlin with no indication so far that the attack was carried out by activists against the climate crisis.
According to a spokesperson for the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, a woman threw liquid at the painting and then hit the wall.
Hermann Patzinger, president of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, was “shocked by the senseless attack on art”.
“As far as we know, fortunately the painting was not seriously damaged, but there was damage in the exhibition hall. The liquid and glue need to be removed from the wall, ”Patzinger said.
Meanwhile, at the Natural History Museum, two women have glued themselves to the bars that support the skeleton of a dinosaur.
The women were dressed in orange vests and clung to the metal poles supporting the 60-million-year-old dinosaur skeleton with a banner that read, “What if the government doesn’t have it under control?”
One of the women, Caris Connell, said she was frightened by “forest fires, water shortages, famine and war”.
“The dinosaurs ended because they couldn’t withstand massive climate change. This also threatens us, “added the 34-year-old activist.
The other protester, Solvig Schinkoethe, said that, as a mother of four, she fears the consequences of climate change.
“We have chosen peaceful resistance to protect our children from the deadly ignorance of governments,” said the 42-year-old woman.
