Students at Columbia University in the United States, who criticized Israel in its war with the Palestinian armed group Hamas, protested during class.

On the 1st (local time), the New York Times (NYT) reported a class on ‘Women’s Participation in the Peace Process’ held by former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Dean of the School of Public Affairs Keren Jarchy Milo at Columbia University in New York, USA. It was reported that 30 out of 300 students gathered their bags and left the classroom even though there was more than half of the class time left.

This was because photos of students were posted without consent on a truck screen near Columbia University last week with the phrase ‘Columbia’s major anti-Semite’. The main characters in the photo were members of a group that criticized Israel during the war between Hamas and Israel. At the time, the group reportedly stated in a statement that “the weight of responsibility for the war and casualties clearly lies with Israeli extremists.”

The NYT reported that protesters are protesting that schools do not play a role in publicly humiliating students. Students who left mid-class joined dozens of other protesters gathered near the building lobby to protest. It was also reported that the majority were wearing masks. The protesters said, “The posted photos were taken on a private and secure online platform used only by students of the Graduate School of International and Public Affairs,” and “We are committed to providing immediate legal support to affected students and protecting the safety, welfare, and privacy of students.” ” was requested.

Regarding this protest, a Columbia University spokesperson told NYT, “The university has no position.” Recently, American universities, including Columbia University, have been facing intense conflicts between Israel and members of the Hamas war-affiliated group. Last month, controversy arose at Harvard University in the U.S. when a truck with the personal information of Harvard students who criticized Israel appeared near the school.
