About a thousand people demonstrated on Sunday in the US metropolis of Boston against compulsory flu vaccination for students. According to an AFP correspondent, there were many parents with their children among them.

They protested against a rule in Massachusetts just two weeks ago that children and teenagers must be vaccinated against the flu. The authorities want to prevent an additional burden on the health system, which is extremely stressed by the corona pandemic.

On August 19, the state of Massachusetts added the flu to a list of diseases that children and adolescents must be vaccinated against. Exceptions only apply in the event of medical intolerance, for religious reasons or if the children are schooled at home or have completely online lessons.

Massachusetts, with its Republican Governor Charlie Baker, is the first US state to enact such a regulation.
