Protest against Alyosha monument and Soviet occupation in Plovdiv: Memorial Day for Victims of Communism

In Plovdiv last night, an event was held against the Alyosha monument to the Soviet occupation. In front of the bust of the Apostle of Freedom Vasil Levski, the participants unfurled a huge banner with the inscription: “Forgive us, Apostle, for being under the boot of the occupier!”, reported BGNES.

On the northern edge of Bunardzhika Hill, where the monument to Russian Emperor Alexander II is located, there was another message: “Your Christ destroyed our liberators.” This is a response to the claims of the local socialists that Alyosha is the new Christ of Bulgaria.

A sign was placed at the foot of the monument to the Soviet warrior with the inscription: “This monument is dedicated to those who occupied Bulgaria, repressed its intelligentsia and turned it from a modern European state into a backward Soviet province.”

The initiator and organizer of the protest was Plovdiv lawyer Stanislav Stanev. Yesterday was Memorial Day for the Victims of Communism.
