Protecting Your Wallet: How to Avoid Fuel Scams at Gas Stations

The constant increase in the fuel price has placed the act of refueling with gasoline at the center of the economic concerns of Spanish households. Currently, fuel stands as one of the main expenses, competing closely with the mortgage and the price of oil. Against this background, Joseba Barenengoa, CEO of ‘EasyGas’ and owner of a service station, has revealed a trick to know if they are not cheating when refueling.

Barenengoa rose to fame years ago when he addressed the importance of fuel additives, compounds that act as the DNA of each oil company and differentiate the fuels of various service stations. And, after that, he has dedicated himself to sharing numerous videos and stories about the quality of low-cost fuels, the repercussions of using low-quality fuels and other problems related to gasoline and diesel.

In that sense, on his YouTube account, the fuel expert revealed one of the fears most pressing for consumers, the possibility of being deceived by the amount of fuel that a gas station sells us.

In the past, the Government implemented initiatives to address this problem, requiring that each supplier have a seal with the approval seal of the industry and the metrological institute. However, police have discovered remote systems at some stations that alter the amount of fuel each pump dispenses.

The trick to know if we are being scammed with fuel

To avoid this type of scam, Barenengoa reveals a simple and effective practice, the test tube test. In the video, the expert explains that all we have to do is request at the service station the set of measures that they must have by law to be able to check the exact amount of fuel we are receiving.

Finally, in case the quantity is not adequate, Barenengoa recommends inform the Municipal Police or the competent authority, since this type of fraud is considered a Serious felony.
