“Protecting Your Device: How a USB Condom Can Prevent Juice Jacking”

Do you know “juice jacking”? Rest assured, there is no physical insanity behind that word. It is actually a type of cyberattack to infiltrate an electronic device through USB ports (charging and/or connectivity). The method is far from new and you may have even seen it at work in the cinema when the hero is about to hack into the FBI’s entire computer system by planting a small USB key in it.

Speaking of the FBI, moreover, the official account of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation recently recalled on Twitter the dangers that could represent the fact of recharging your phone on public sockets, at the airport, etc.

But don’t worry, it’s very easy to protect yourself from this practice of “juice jacking” which we could literally translate as “port enjugation” – but we won’t for obvious reasons. All you need to do is use a USB condom to avoid direct contact between your vulnerable port and a potentially harmful digital foreign agent.

“Condom USB” is the term that has been kept in recent years even if we also find “SyncStop” – but much less speaking, let’s be honest. It is a simple dongle, a small peripheral with USB input and output which can be placed between the cable and the USB port. This blocks the channel intended for data transfer, allowing only charging.

A simple and effective way to avoid catching USbically transmissible viruses or other malicious software.
