Protecting Your Company from Summer Holiday Cyber Attacks

It is in a survey NHO has carried out among its members that it now appears that 16 per cent of NHO companies experience more attempts at computer attacks during the summer holidays than at any other time of the year.

Among the companies with more than 250 man-years, 25 per cent respond that they experience an increase.

Don’t put it here!

– Utilizes vacation mode

9 out of 10 employees have their work e-mail and IT systems on their mobile, but only 26 per cent of companies have security systems or guidelines for employee mobile use.

– Criminal actors take advantage of the fact that we are in holiday mode. The staffing is lower, the attention is not as great, and we may not be as careful as usual. Both fraudsters and criminal hackers who attack the computer systems use this, says NHO leader Ole Erik Almlid in an e-mail to DinSide.

The NHO survey shows that only 12 per cent of companies have fleet management of mobile devices, a so-called Mobile Device Management solution (MDM). Such administration tools give the IT department the opportunity to manage software and secure data and mobile devices, so that this is not left to the individual user. The survey shows that these systems are most common in the largest companies. The survey also shows that only 13 per cent of companies have written routines for employees’ mobile use.

Warns against copycat apps

– Skeptical

Managing Director of NorSIS, Knut Ivar Rønning points out that if you do not have such administration tools on your phone, it is up to the individual to take some simple security measures.

– Be extra skeptical about both the content and the sender of SMSes and e-mails received during the holidays, he advises.

As DinSide has previously written, it is also wise to stay away from unsecured networks and public USB chargers.
