The Regional Health Management (Geresa) is carrying out joint work with the Pensión 65 program of the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (MIDIS) with the aim of protecting older adults throughout the Arequipa region. This initiative will allow older adults to collect their pension and complete their vaccination schedule through the vaccination brigades that will be deployed in various headquarters of the Banco de la Nación in the 08 provinces: Arequipa, Caylloma, Camaná, Caravelí, Castilla, Condesuyos , La Unión and Islay, starting February 18.
La Geresa reminds us of the importance of people over 60 years of age being up to date with influenza and pneumococcus vaccines to protect themselves from complications related to respiratory diseases.
In addition, the need to be immunized against the new variant (EG.5) recently added to the list of “variants of interest” for COVID-19 is emphasized. The Mg. Giovanna Valdivia Manrique, Immunization coordinator, mentioned that older adults should receive the adapted monovalent vaccine to protect themselves from developing serious symptoms of the disease.
It is important to highlight that vaccination against COVID-19 is the safest and most effective measure to prevent severe illness, hospitalization and death, regardless of the strain of the virus.
