Protecting education means protecting the future

According to the statement made by CTP, Erhürman visited Atatürk Teacher Academy (AÖA) yesterday with his accompanying delegation and met with the board of directors.

Erhürman was accompanied by Secretary General Asım Akansoy, Nicosia District Chairman Devrim Barçın, members of parliament and Nicosia District Executive Board members during his visit.

Erhürman stated that the history of Atatürk Teacher Academy goes back a long time and reminded that the institution was established during the British colonial administration. Erhürman also emphasized that this is a decisive element in remembering how important the struggle for existence of the Turkish Cypriots is.

-“Problems in education may cost this society 30-40 years”

Noting that there are problems in many areas in the country, from economy to health, but the most important of these are the problems in education, Erhürman stated that not solving the problems in education could cost this society 30-40 years.

Stating that their concerns in the field of education are growing day by day, Erhürman said, “Can we really provide an education that will prepare our children for the future in our public schools?” asked.

Stating that the number of students who do not speak Turkish in schools is increasing day by day, Erhürman said, “How will the children who graduate from this institution go and teach Turkish to someone whose native language is not Turkish?” said.

Stating that it is difficult to provide quality education in such an environment, Erhürman argued that no plans or programs have been prepared for children with special needs.

Erhürman told AÖA officials that they need mutual consultation regarding the problems in the field of education and that they need to make this the agenda of the society.
